Seething with colour, a creepy skull-like image forms from the undergrowth, a brilliant pink fire snaking up to light it from within. Layered and filled with an unsettling sense of optical illusion, “Awakening” uses a restricted, vibrant colour-palette to enhance the textures and cascading fine lines. “Dripping” marked a turning point in my process – letting go of perfectionism and surrendering to the natural flow of the medium. Inspired by M.C. Escher’s surreal geometry and natural forms like stinkhorn fungi and jellyfish, the painting pulses with tiny organic details. This is one of the most-loved pieces in the series.
