Seething with colour, a creepy skull-like image forms from the undergrowth, a brilliant pink fire snaking up to light it from within. Layered and filled with an unsettling sense of optical illusion, “Awakening” uses a restricted, vibrant colour-palette to enhance the textures and cascading fine lines. “Dripping” marked a turning point in my process – letting go of perfectionism and surrendering to the natural flow of the medium. Inspired by M.C. Escher’s surreal geometry and natural forms like stinkhorn fungi and jellyfish, the painting pulses with tiny organic details. This is one of the most-loved pieces in the series. A dripping skull that glows like it’s lit from within. “Glowing” began with an inky abstract form and was sculpted into being through layering and linework. What began as a spider became an entire landscape. “Fading” evokes travel through ancient deserts - Death Valley, the Sahara, the Outback. I painted it while listening to the creative world of Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir. Painted in neon pink and black, it can be displayed on any side and still convey movement between worlds. Inspired by my Inca Trail hike in Peru, “Creeping” pays homage to spiders – creatures I love. Using Acid Goth’s signature neon pink and black palette, the furry texture was built through layered paint that gives the work a bold 3D effect. Some gallery visitors thought it was sculpted!
